It took me quite a while to realize how beautiful a storm cloud could be. I used to wonder what the purpose of pain was. I questioned God about it often. To me, it seemed impossible that anything painful could ever give birth to anything beautiful.
How could something that hurts be the cornerstone of anything good? It sounded like a fairy tale, the kind of lie people tell themselves just to keep from breaking beyond repair. How could wounds carry purpose? How could sorrow hold promise? How could suffering ever become the soil where something holy grows?
But then I read about a man whose flesh was torn from His bones, whose hands were pierced with nails, whose body carried the weight of a love so deep it chose to suffer. He bore pain with an open heart. He did not run from the hurt, the agony, or the storm. He walked straight through it.
He did not call pain beautiful in itself, but He knew what beauty would come from it. He knew that sometimes the road to redemption is stained with blood. He knew that sometimes love bleeds. He said yes to suffering because He could already see what salvation would look like on me. He endured the cross because He saw restoration. He embraced the pain because He knew grace would be a priceless treasure.
After seeing Calvary, I began to understand pain differently. The cross showed me how the darkest day could become a doorway to hope, even though suffering itself remained painful. So now, when storm clouds gather, I do not only see darkness. I see the possibility of rain feeding roots I cannot yet see. I see heaven doing quiet work beneath the surface. I see that even pain can become the beginning of something beautiful in the hands of God.
I hope this gave you some hope.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
